Planning: Pitch & Audience Feedback
PLANNING: PITCH
Interpreting the brief, my documentary
will follow the tribulations of a 19-year-old male trying to make it in the Performing Arts world, a volatile industry with high demands and endless
pressure overcoming obstacles and disappointment. It talks about his battle with
an eating disorder whilst trying to stay in top shape and be positive regardless of the overwhelming
uncertainty of the business; the high
demands, the long hour rehearsals, the need to stay in excellent shape and
countless auditions which have a toll on his well-being and financial situation.
The topics, bullying and anorexia, will
play a main role in my documentary, in the style of the BBC Three programmes, which deals with current affairs and mental health illness, being an ongoing problem in
today’s youth which corresponds with the target demographic of 16-25-year-olds as
stated in the brief. The blame lies with the young people’s fascination with social
media which seems to dictate how people perceive themselves and the self-expectations
of image, behaviour and level of success.
To involve the audience, I will use
helplines at the end of the video as a form of digital convergence to offer support and the website address will also appear to link the two products together.
I decided to collect feedback via Microsoft Forums to see if my initial idea was doable and fit the brief.
Here are the results:
Here are the results:
This feedback from my peers has been extremely helpful and positive. From this data, I have gathered that my idea does fit the brief as I have included relevant issues from today's society. My peers have given me different suggestions of what to include such as, interviews, dancing clips and giving out health tips to help others - which is a feature of a typical BBC 3 documentary.
I also need to consider another character that is part of a different social group, which is a requirement from the brief.

Planning: Reflection on moderators report
Planning: Reflection on moderators report
- Note down what who you worked with had done and how they were directed as there was a lack of completion of this section.
- Make sure the blog is easy to navigate and has a clear layout for the examiner
- Made sure everything is completed for the CCS
- reference to unassessed participants
- research/ planning
- the two pages of the websites which had been assessed
- website templates used
- The Statement of Intent needs to have a clear link between the two main products and explained how digital convergence would connect the two
- The report suggests that the 'candidates had a great deal of detail about the offline product but very little about the online (unbalanced)'
- Well-rehearsed performances and good casting were key to the successful outcomes of the TV documentary
- Use a running banner at the bottom of the screen, with web address and social media details to demonstrate an effective understanding of digital convergence
- Make sure to consider the mise-en-scene
- 'lack of awareness of appropriate mise-en-scene, framing and composition; the setting was generally the least considered aspect'
WEBSITE
- Spend as much time planning the website as much as you planned for your chosen brief, as there has to be a strong link
- Websites were seen to be 'created in a short amount of time and being overly reliant on platform-provided templates with limited extra content'
- Consider real-world examples of websites, apply this knowledge effectively to your own
- It's the same amount of marks as TV !!!!
- The two marked pages clearly need to link to the house style/branding of the other product
- 'Generally, the linked pages tended to be less successful than homepages, often lacking technical sophistication'
- 'failing to take in the relationship between the other product and concepts like the target audience and representation'
- Use examples of 'tweets, or Instagram posts, a newsletter, examples of merchandise for the brand, or discussion of other products available to buy such as tracks, tour books, subscriptions' to really link the two products together
- Less successful websites either demonstrated a lack of attention to detail or missed key elements of the brief's codes and conventions
- Sites which did not include a viable/ visible menu bar
- Sites where the linked page was virtually blank or included text but no image
- Sites with two uneven pages
- Sites that did not have any linked pages – just two separate webpages
- Sites that did not include embedded audio/ video
- Sites which extended beyond the sides of a standard monitor screen
- Need to have a very effective consideration of how to interact with the target audience
- bespoke contact forms, subscriptions, exclusive offers, social media feeds
DIGITAL CONVERGENCE
- Overall branding has to be considered with the use of imagery, logo, models, colours, themes across products clearly demonstrated
- Has to be an emphasis on mutual promotion
- 'a shout-out on the radio or television show, a link at the end of the video'
- There was a lack of digital convergence in recent work, so make sure you have lots
- 'Analogue products which did not mention the website at all'
- 'Websites which did not link directly to the other product
- 'Models/ actors on the website who were not used in the partner product'
- 'Features on the website which were not mentioned in the partner product'
